Strength of materials laboratory will demonstrate the basic principles in the area of strength, mechanics of materials and structural analysis to the students through a series of experiments. Hence it is useful in understanding the courses like Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials and Structural Analysis. Measuring the properties of the materials such as impact strength, tensile strength, compressive strength, hardness, and ductility is conducted in this laboratory. Great strides in the world of mechanics have been achieved only through keen experimental observations.
Civil Engineers are mainly concerned with the mechanical properties. Hence the knowledge acquired in this laboratory will be useful in the practical situations. The students will able to predict the behavior and response of the structures under various loading conditions in the engineering field. It will also help them in choosing a material according to the specified requirements.
