Department of Civil Engineering organized a Short Term Training Program (STTP) on Total Station from 04-08-2025 to 09-08-2025

Date: 04-08-2025 – 09-08-2025

Time: 9.30 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.

Organized by: Department of Civil Engineering

Participants: 39 Students, 8 Teaching Staff

1. Introduction

The Department of Civil Engineering organized a Short Term Training Program (STTP) on Total Station from 4th to 9th August 2025. The program aimed to provide participants with theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in modern surveying techniques using Total Station equipment.

2. Resource Person

Mr. S. Praneesh

Manager, RVS Land Surveyors

Brief Profile:

Mr. Praneesh holds an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Geography and has experience as an Assistant Professor in the field. His research projects include “Estimation of Carbon Footprint by Individuals” and “Land Use/Land Cover Change Detection using Geospatial Techniques”. He is skilled in ArcGIS Desktop, SPSS, Microsoft Office, and has strong analytical and communication abilities.

3. Objectives

  • Introduce Total Station equipment and its components.
  • Train participants in instrument setup, calibration, and operation.
  • Teach surveying techniques for distance, angle, and coordinate measurements.
  • Demonstrate field applications such as topographic surveys, construction layout, and boundary marking.
  • Guide data interpretation and processing using software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Leica Geo Office.

4. Outcomes

By the end of the program, participants:

  • Operated Total Station instruments in real-world scenarios.
  • Understood modern surveying methods including traversing, levelling, contouring, and topographic surveys.
  • Learned to record and export survey data to AutoCAD, GIS, and Excel for mapping and analysis.
  • Applied Total Station techniques in construction layout, road alignment, boundary marking, and site planning.

5. Key Highlights

  • Field survey techniques and coordinate systems.
  • AutoCAD integration for survey data processing.
  • Practical, hands-on training sessions in outdoor environments.

Outcome:
The STTP successfully enhanced participants’ technical expertise in modern surveying practices, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements.
