REPORT ON INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO KUDANKULAM NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT (KKNPP) on  23-10-2025

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of AAA College of Engineering and Technology organized an Industrial Visit to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), Tirunelveli District, on 23rd October 2025 for the III Year Mechanical Engineering students (Batch 2023–2027). The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning, operation, and safety systems of one of India’s largest nuclear power plants. The visit was coordinated and accompanied by Mr. A. Vignesh Moorthy Pandian,  Mr. M. Balamurugan and Mr.M.Nagendran , Assistant Professor / Mech. The students departed from the college at 4:00 a.m. and reached Kudankulam by 9:00 a.m. After security clearance and registration, the team entered the plant premises at 9:30 a.m. The session commenced with an orientation about the overview of nuclear power generation, types of reactors, and pressurized water reactor technology used at KKNPP. Students were taken to key sections of the plant, including the Turbine Hall, Reactor Control Room (overview section), and Reactor Safety Display Units, where engineers explained the working principles of turbines, heat exchangers, and safety interlocks. The participants also learned about the coolant circulation system, containment structure, and emergency shutdown mechanisms. In the afternoon session, KKNPP engineers interacted with students and discussed nuclear safety protocols, radiation protection measures, and career opportunities in nuclear energy. The visit concluded with a group photo session and vote of thanks by the accompanying faculty members. The industrial visit provided valuable insights into advanced power generation technologies and real-time plant operations, bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice. It enhanced students’ understanding of Power Plant Engineering, Design of Machine Elements, and Industrial Safety, motivating them toward careers in the energy sector.
