The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Basics about Safety Engineering” with the objective of creating awareness about the importance of safety practices in industrial and engineering environments. The programme was designed to expose students to fundamental concepts of safety engineering and to highlight the critical role of engineers in ensuring safe and accident-free workplaces.
The session was delivered by Mr. R. Jeyaprakash, M.E., Senior Manager – Marketing Division, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), an experienced industry expert with more than 25 years of professional experience across pharmaceutical, chemical, FMCG, and petroleum industries. He shared valuable insights drawn from his extensive industrial exposure, making the session highly informative and practical. The lecture covered essential topics such as hazard identification, risk assessment, statutory safety regulations, use of personal protective equipment, fire safety measures, and emergency response planning. Real-time industrial case studies were discussed to help students relate theoretical concepts to practical situations.
The programme was highly interactive and engaging, encouraging students to actively participate and clarify their doubts regarding industrial safety standards and career prospects in safety engineering. A total of 58 students attended the programme and benefited from the expert session. The guest lecture served as an effective platform to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices, while motivating students to adopt a strong safety culture and professional responsibility in their future engineering careers.
