| Description about the Programme | The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), organized a one-day workshop and hands-on training program on CNC router operations for final-year students on June 20, 2026, featuring resource person Mr.G.Sastha Roopan, CEO at SR 3D Solutions, Sivakasi. The technical session provided students with end-to-end practical exposure to subtractive manufacturing, beginning with assembling and installing a CNC router from scratch to understand its mechanical and electronic framework. Participants learned to convert 2D raster images into vector formats, program toolpaths using OpenBuilds CAM software, and write foundational G-code. A core focus was placed on precision machine setup, where students mastered work coordinate offsets to establish workpiece origins and tool length offset methods to ensure accurate cutting depths. The workshop concluded with a live, hands-on session where students secured raw materials, applied offset parameters, and operated the CNC router under expert supervision to fabricate finished components. The program was coordinated by Mr.S.Balamurugan, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering. |
